Qatar Airways have removed thirteen Airbus A350 new generation airliners from service after finding the fuselage surface below the paint degrading at an accelerated rate.

The airline said it is continuously and closely monitoring the significant condition across its remaining 40 Airbus A350 fleet.

Qatar said the fleet will return to service only after the root cause can be established and a satisfactory solution made available to permanently correct the underlying condition.

The grounded fleet will be replaced by Qatar A330 fleet. The airline said it is also cooperating with all the leasing companies affected by this A350 grounding who have started to inspect their impacted aircraft.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, Mr. Akbar Al Baker, said: Qatar Airways expects Airbus to have established the root cause and permanently corrected the underlying condition to the satisfaction of Qatar Airways and our regulator before we take delivery of any further A350 aircraft.

Qatar was the launch customer of the A350-900 in 2014 and A350-1000 in 2018.
