A Russian fifth generation Sukhoi Su-57 stealth fighter jet crashed during a test flight from the far eastern Khabarovsk region.

Preliminary reports indicate, a failure of control system of the aircraft system forced the pilot to eject from the aircraft.

The aircraft lost control at around 26,000 ft and started spiraling down.

The aircraft was on a routine test flight from Sukhoi's Komsomolsk-on-Amur plant. The pilot sustained the crash without any major injuries and was rescued by a Mi-8 helicopter.

The crashed aircraft was the first serial production aircraft slated for Russian air force and the eleventh to come off the production line.

This is the first crash involving the type which took to skies in 2010. The aircraft has been undergoing flight test since then and is slated to enter Russian Air Force service later this year.

In 2019, Russia signed a deal for 76 Su-57s to equip the Air Force. The Su-57 marked its combat debut in Syria in 2018.
