The U.S. Air Force has awarded Northrop Grumman Corporation a contract to design, develop, test and qualify a replacement payload transporter system for the US intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) weapon system.

This program will provide a replacement for the existing payload transporter that is nearing the end of its design life. The contract is worth $39.7 million over four years.
The Northrop Grumman-led ICBM team has supported the Air Force in the overall sustainment of the weapon system including development, production, deployment and system modifications.

"The replacement transporter will provide an immediate improvement in security and prevent potential supportability impacts from the aging system currently in use,"said Mark Bishop, program manager for the company's payload transporter replacement program.
